Guild Wars Week of May 4, 2020: Brown Day

Day 3: Brown Day

Yesterday's Defense - 0 for 0, wasn't attacked.

My brown defense team is pretty strong. I use a +9 Flammifer, Yao Guai, Queen Titania, and Tai-Pan with my level 77 Sunspear. This team should be able to win pretty easily, and with my yellow defense, is likely my best team.

My brown attack team is a +9 Earth's Fury (possibly my favorite weapon), Glaycion, Daughter of Ice, and Satyr Muscian. I actually love this team even if it isn't meta strong. Earth's Fury is one of my personal favorite weapons, and the Daughter of Ice/Glaycion combo is so solid. Satyr Muscian is great as well - damaging two and stealing magic. Just a fun team. The class is my Frostmage, as is often the case.

Fight 1 - a Warlord team rated 3,000 or so - Vine Marten, Dark Maiden, Teraxis, and Luther. 3,253 points for clearing an idle player.

Fight 2 - A Bard team rated 6,579, consisting of Serpetine Dagger, Elwyn, Baba Yaga and Spirit Dancer. This team nearly ruined my day - they fired so many moves I thought I was going to lose. My hero did fall, and I was worried about the rest of my team. The only thing that saved me was that I had enough stats to survive and their team didn't have enough stats to persist. I squeaked 1,284 points out of this fight.

Fight 3 - Warlord rated 8,770 - +9 Summer's Fury, Sunbird, Goblin, and Ice Worm. On paper a bizarre mix of characters, and Sunbird doesn't scale great at this level. Easy fight for 1,483 points.

Fight 4 - Mechanist rated 4,924 with Thunderbolt (at +2), Sparkgrinder, Brawlmaster Bur'Nakh and Ancient Horror. I wasn't really worried but to top it all off, everything went my way. 1,631 points

Fight 5 - Warlord, rated 6,804. A +10 Warlord's Battlecry, Zephyros, Rowanne, Green Seer. Given that this guild is somewhat high on the brackets, and that there is a +10 weapon on this one, I think this might be a player that was once active and since has fallen away. I think this team used to be somewhat popular. Maybe in the hands of a human it would have worked, but the Rowanne fired harmlessly after plenty of armor had been stripped. 1,719 points earned

Guild Wars Week of May 4, 2020 - Blue Day

Day 2: Blue Day

Yesterday's Defense - 0 for 0, wasn't attacked.

My blue day defense team is basically my pvp team - Divine Ishbaala, Qilin, Rope Dart, and Moon Rabbit. This team easily clears PVP through the highest ranks. That said, it does require a lot of user thought, so we will see. This team uses Frostmage, mostly to try to block other teams.

For attack, its Moonsinger, King Gobtruffle, Maraji Queen, and the Bronzelock Pistol. Moonsinger is the empowered converter to feed Gobtruffle and we all know the rest of the deal. This team is terrible and lazy but also incredibly safe and effective. As a side note, Bronzelock Pistol is one of my person sleeper weapons - I think its about as powerful as the Skeleton Key/Egg Thief combo if those colors are blocked.

Fight 1 - a Titan team rated at 9,936 with a +9 Mang, Queen Ysabelle, Zephyros, and High king Irongut. Any fight with HKI can go sideways at a moment's notice. Fight went well - fortunately a 10k rating is pretty short of mine and the strength difference was notable. 3,238 points.

Fight 2 - a Warlord team with a rating of 10,483. A +9 Summer's Fury, Abhorath, Gargantaur, and Gemhammer. This fight actually went terribly - a Gobtruffle failed to loop repeatedly and a couple of desperate Maraji triggers results in skulls cascades for the other team. 1,386 points.

Fight 3 - a priest team rated 5,803. Scored 1,536 points

Fight 4 - an assassin team rated at 8,959 with Dimetraxia, Emperor Khorvash, Dragotaur, and Shadow Dragon, They did almost get me with the spawning a new guy thing where I used Maraji without a loop, but still wasn't much of a battle. 1,626 points.

Fight 5 - An archer team rated at 11,274 points. Glaycion, Captain Skullbeard, Venbarak, and King Bloodhammer. Glaycion and Bloodhammer are both solid pvp choices, and while Venbarak isn't really a meta pick, his ability is strong if you can fire it twice in quick succession. Captain Skullbeard was a new name for me, and I'm honestly not sure why he is in this list. This was a close fight - I got lucky that some of my team was submerging through the Frostmage ability and it caused Venbarak's move to miss them. Moonsinger actually died pretty quickly and Gobtruffle's damage output wasn't high enough to quickly move through my opponent. I relied on Pistol mostly, as Marajji alignment was difficult to come by, and when it did happen, didn't do as much as I would have hoped. Picked up 1,635 points though.

Guild Wars Week of May 4, 2020 - Yellow Day

Day 1: Yellow Day

My yellow defense team is probably something I'll have to look at: Drowned Sailor, Holy Avenger, Borealis, Daughter of Ice, with my level 53 Frostmage. The Drowned Sailor is an empowered converter away from Yellow, Daughter of Ice is an empowered red to blue converter with icestorm, and then Borealis attempts to take advantage of triple skull damage vs. Frozen enemies. Holy Avenger removes Yellow and does chip damage through brown mana in a pinch, but the real threat (and scorer) is Borealis. The idea here is that Daughter of Ice and Drowned Sailor both can cast on start, giving a 25% chance to freeze each, plus Frostmage freezes one enemy on start, then you try to hit skulls for a quick finish. The final piece is always Frostmages' inherent PVP strength by preventing looping, especially against Divine Ishballa teams.

My attack team is basically my PVP team, with the small loss of the Moon Rabbit for Voice of Orpheus. Honestly this team is great and has no real weakness except an aggressive freeze team. The full list is Ishballa, Qilin, Rope Dart, and Orpheus, again with the level 53 Frostmage to help keep my opponent in check.

Fight 1 - a dead team with a score of 1,454... earned me 3,273 Guild War points.

Fight 2 - an assassin team rated at 10,628 points! Obsidian Golem, High Paladin, Archdruid, and Hyndla Frostcrown. Looks like they were basically going for Skull defense with the first two. Sometimes things just go your way and that was this fight for me. Ishballa filled mana immediately and I had board alignment, which allowed me to use rope dart to armor break the Paladin and win out quick. 1,385 points.

Fight 3 - a thief team rated at 9,642 points. Skeleton key, Queen Titania, Megavore, and Queen of Sin. I wonder if this is normally their red day team that they forgot to move. This was another solid board, plus Thief doesn't really block looping teams, and I closed out basically on turn 2. 1,524 points.

Fight 4 - Priest rated 8,918. A +9 Mang, Lapina Explorer, King Silenius, and Saguaro. The Priest is at level 100 and all the troops are levelled/traited. This one started exceptionally poorly for me and I was worried I was going to have to report a loss, but I was able to charge Rope Dart to pull the lapina to first spot and then follow up with Orpheus to knock her out, which then gave me some room to get Ishballa and Qilin firing to take out the rest. 1,594 points.

Fight 5 - a second thief team, this one rated 11,329. Great Maw, Black Manacles, Apothecary, Queen Mab. I think I've actually used this team somewhere and found it strong. Maw's devour plus the level 100 thief trait can also make any battle go sideways if RNG smiles. This was a bit of a tougher but fortunately I didn't lose any troops. Scored 1,757 points.
